I am not a Cinematographer, I do not create art.
I am a Marketer that uses video to deliver the right message to the right audience.

Conveying Your Message

Content Marketing

Content marketing is not new. Since the days of the Michelin Guide, marketers used content to promote their brands.
In 2021, it became clear that video is going to dominate the space.

Conveying Your Message Agency Launch

While I advocate for moving fast and breaking things when it comes to content creation, I felt that a new agency launch deserved more thought and care put into its launch video. I developed a story that hit the main pain points that our ICP faced, the reasons supporting our credibility, and what we can do to help them. And the reception on LinkedIn was amazing. This video is some of my most successful content to date.

Guest Invite Promo for Podcasts

If a picture is worth a thousand words, what would happen if I showed you 30 pictures every second? People do not organically perform the actions you want them to. And there are only so many instructions you can include on your website page before people tune you out and click off the page. When planning for this video, I made sure to create an asset that can easily be reused in social media and email campaigns, beyond its original intended use.

"Delivered" Product Demo - Built on HubSpot

Product demos are tricky. Simply showcasing the functionality of a piece of software is only relevant to prospects who are hovering over the checkout button. Getting someone interested in seeing a solution in action requires them to feel some connection to the pain points showcased. Even then, people need something to keep their attention. This is where humor goes a long way.

7 Takeaways from Inbound 23

Anyone who has worked with me knows that every blog article will eventually become a video that gets embedded on the page. However, sometimes the video listicle comes first. Content creators are different: some can easily crank out 1,200-word articles in an afternoon, while others prefer turning on a camera and recording their stream of consciousness. For me, it always starts with a written script, that becomes both a video and an expanded blog post.

A Modern GTM Strategy

Developing a brand narrative has always been a crucial step in any brand strategy. Modern social media has pushed user behaviors in such a way that brands felt the need to forego a brand narrative in exchange for a strategy where brand accounts mirror the behavior of platform users. While this might boost your engagement numbers, it ultimately hurts your bottom line. I am always looking for new ways to make the brand narrative interesting to engage with, and this video was successful in doing just that.

Industrial Tech Stack Live - Session 3

Most marketers would agree that event promotion can feel like a chore: you take an event brochure template, fill in the title, speaker names, date & time, and slap on some sponsor logos. I wanted to do something different. I took the time to set the stage and showcase what pain will be addressed in the event by our guest expert. I highlighted why we deserved 60 minutes of the audience's time and why they should join us live instead of catching the inevitable recording.

Corporate Communications

Corporate video is a different beast. It requires extensive planning and coordination of a lot of moving parts.
Unlike modern content marketing, breaking things is not an option.

INDEVCO Plastics Sustainability

Corporate initiatives are not always the most fun, especially when it comes to reporting on metrics such as carbon footprints. Setting those metrics against a background of interesting footage filmed inside the brand's factory with rock music might be just what makes them a bit more palatable.

Barricade Building Products SIB

Tradeshows are seeing a resurgence in 2024. If you're exhibiting at a tradeshow, and your budget permits, you might want to bring a screen to your booth. Here is an example of a video that was running on a loop in the background of a building envelope system display. One benefit of having a loud tradeshow is that you don't need to worry about audio.

INDEVCO North America Internship Program

The growth of a company relies not only on customers purchasing its products but also on being an attractive place for talent. Having a great internship program is worth documenting and sharing with the world. It would be great if the National Intern Day doesn't fall 2 days after the project gets greenlit, though.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Employee communications is an aspect of marketing that is typically neglected. Having a clear strategy for sharing themes and initiatives that the company is focused on always results in better employee engagement. Breast cancer awareness campaigns are typically some of the most sensitive, and this video required diligent care from both the HR and Marketing teams.

We drove 2750 miles in 5 days! - Moving Vlog

It's not every day that you get to travel across the mainland USA. I owed it to everyone to document this journey. I filmed this vlog across 5 days using my then Samsung Note 9. Many did not understand what driving 2750 miles looked like until they saw this vlog.

Industrial Marketing Cover Video (Out of Date)

In 2020, every company was demanding a cover letter. I hated cover letters (and still do) so I thought: "Why not use my video skills to stand out?". That's why I created a video with templated graphics and placeholder clips that can be quickly personalized to the relevant company. Since this video is out of date, I can at least use it to showcase my thought process and video skills.

If you make a video and nobody watches, was it really uploaded to Youtube?

There was a time when I was trying to start a YouTube channel. Why? Because the idea of becoming a full-time YouTuber was very intriguing. I quickly understood the amount of effort required to publish regular content and realized that I did not have the time required to do so. That doesn't mean that I will never try to become a YouTuber again in the future. Until then, here is a video of dogs having fun, interrupted by my face.

Birbs

In typical millennial fashion, I picked up birdwatching the moment I turned 30. I spent many hours with my remote camera setup, watching my birdfeeder, ready to capture cardinals in high definition. Those many hours resulted in 7 minutes of pure bird goodness.

Soothing Rain

I was always intrigued by the success of Lofi music videos set against footage of soothing scenery. As I was experimenting with my audio equipment, I had the idea of recording the sound of rainfall. One thing led to another, and I ended up putting together this video. I love seeing the retention metrics in my YouTube analytics for this video. It is the highest on my channel.

Squirrels on a Hot Humid Day

This was the day that I learned something interesting about camera lenses. It was a hot and humid summer day, and one of my colleagues noticed the squirrels right outside our office window. So I quickly grabbed the camera and lens from our cold airconditioned office and ran out into the hot humid air. When I pointed the camera at the squirrels I realized I had a choice to make: film with a foggy lens or miss the opportunity entirely. Thankfully, the fog dissipated once the lens temperature equalized with the ambient temperature. Without further ado, the cutest squirrels I have ever met in person.

I Learned Video Creation Because The Marketing Landscape Needs It

Troy Video - yellow and purple

It is 2020, everyone is jumping on video. Social feeds are filled with user-generated video shot on smartphone cameras. It was authentic and raw, but all the videos blended in a single blur. I was part of that crowd. I started creating Talking Head videos using my smartphone, a ring light, and a Lavalier mic. When I relocated to the USA, I realized that there was an opportunity for me to stand out on the feed.

And so, I picked up my first mirrorless camera and began my videography journey.

I Quickly Understood What Separated The Best From The Crowd:
  • I learned proper filming and composition
  • I learned proper lighting and audio techniques
  • I learned proper non-linear editing

When all of those skills clicked for me, I knew I had a new tool in my content marketing arsenal that could give me the edge I was looking for.
